Grant of Arms awarded to Isaac Crawhall in 1870. Signed by both the Principle King of Arms and Norroy King of Arms. Housed in original case of issue with original wax seals attached. Overall in very good condition and a wonderful item.
To all and singular to whom these presents shall come. Sir Albert William Woods, Knight, Garter Principle King of Arms and Walter Aston Blount Esquire, Norroy King of Arms of the North parts of England from the River Trent Northwards, send greeting whereas Isaac Crawhall of Nun Monkton in the West Riding in the County of York, Gentleman, hath represented unto The Most Noble Henry Duke of Norfolk Earl Marshal and Hereditary Marshal of England that being desirous or bearing Armorial Ensigns with lawful authority He therefore requested the favour of His Grace’s Warrant for our granting and assigning such as may be proper to be borne by him and his descendants according to the Laws of Arms And Forasmuch as the said Earl Marshal did by Warrant under his hand and seal bearing date the Sixteenth day of November last authorize and direct us to grant and assign such Armorial Ensigns accordingly Know He therefore that we the said Garter and Norroy in pursuance of His Grace’s Warrant and by virtue of the Letters Patent of our several offices to each of us respectively granted do by these presents grant and assign unto the said Isaac Crawhall the Arms following that is to say Argent three Battle-axes cheveronwise sable between two Cheveronells engrailed oules the whole between three Crowns also sable and for the crest on a wreath of the Colours upon a mount Vert, a crown sable holding in the dexter claw a Battle-axe in bend proper as the same arc in the margin hereof more plainly depicted to be borne and used forever hereafter by him the said Isaac Crawhall and his descendants with due and proper differences according to the laws of arms In Witness whereof we the said Garter and Norroy Kings of arms have to these presents subscribed our names and affixed the seals of our several offices this eleventh day of March in the thirty third year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy.
