British Longbow Society medal encased within glass lunettes held together by a gold band and engraved on edge with 'W.A Capn of Numbers - Wm Staunton 1838'. The medal is accompanied by a George III silver snuff box, hallmarked to London 1819, the exterior of which is engraved with the initials W.A divided by arrow. The interior panel is further engraved 'Captn of Numbers - William Staunton - July 14 1840'. The snuff box weighs 77 grams.
The medal is the only example of this type we have been able to source and presumably very rare. A fantastic and early piece of archery memorabilia and worthy of further research.
