Obverse with bust of King Louis XVI in a tie-wig and coat, reverse with inscription within a laurel wreath tied with a bow. Commemorating the expedition of 'Boussole' and 'Astrolabe' frigates that sailed from Brest in June 1785. They were sent on an exploring expedition to the eastern coast of Asia and both were lost with all hands near the New Hebrides.
Toned Extremely Fine and rare.
It has been suggested that a total of only 100 of these medals (total for both bronze and silver) were struck.
