14.5cm. Wax.
An original and really rather incredible wax seal from the reign of Elizabeth I. The obverse of the seal features a classic full body portrait of the Queen, designed by Nicholas Hilliard, the reverse shows the Queen riding on horseback. The original paper string still runs through the seal, which would have been used to mount the seal to an official document.
The seal is undamaged and overall in good condition for such a rare and historic item. It is housed in a very old circular case, clad in leather, which may well be the original (this is very fragile).
A fantastic piece of British history featuring one of the most iconic monarchs to have reigned and an item that is rarely found outside of a museum.
