Eimer 653.
35mm. Pinchbeck. Unsigned.
Obverse with soldier holding staff and British flag, reverse with half length figure of Byng receiving a purse, legend of 'WAS MINORCA SOLD - FOR FRENCH GOLD'.
Good Very Fine and very rare. A fantastic example of this rare medal.
Byng had been sent to relieve Minorca from French occupation, but withdrew without a fight. For this he was shot by firing squad on his own quarterdeck.
