Obverse with bust of Charles II, reverse with 9 line legend. Edge with rasied lettering of 'SAMVEL∙ MORLANDVS∙ EQ∙ ET BAR∙ MAGISTER MECHANICORVM'.
Extremely Fine and excessively rare with few examples known. The raised letter edge shows the incredible quality of workmanship of such an early medal.
Sir Samuel Morland (1625-1695), diplomatist, mathematician and inventor. The medals are said to have been struck by Morland after his appointment as 'Master of Mechanics’, and were dedicated to the King.
