Obverse with arms and motto of the city, reverse with legend in 16 lines; 'The Freemen of Plymouth request your wearing this medal to be returned at the expiration of your mayoralty in honorable token of that inestimable branch of the British constitution trial by jury by whose verdict their right to elect a chief magistrate for the borough was restored after having been unjustly witheld for upwards of three centuries'. Edge plain.
Small test mark on edge otherwise Extremely Fine and housed in red circular case (possibly non-original). Within the case is a circular paper roundel stating 'For J.B Miller - From ??. 1803'. Extremely rare.
A similar, albeit named, medal that passed through the salerooms of Noonan's was accompanied by a letter from Plymouth City Museum & Art Gallery, dated 10 February 1976, in which it is stated that only six such presentation medals for mayors of Plymouth were struck.
